Market Your Website Free
Internet Marketing is comprised of two elements. One is the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and the design layout of your website. The other is what you can do to promote your website and online services away from your web site. It is important to carry out work in both areas.
SEO and changes to the design of your web site can be expensive but the results, if carried out by a reputable company, can be worth it. No-one can guarantee top spot on Google, unless you have a unique business, an obscure search term or some questionable or ‘Black Hat’ SEO is carried out.
Beware of questionable practices, in the short term they can produce good results but in the long term they can harm your web site status.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) can cover quite a few things both on and off your website and it really can make a difference to your position on search engine results pages. This is important for driving more business to your web site but once your client arrives on your web site, it’s the layout and design that will keep them there and encourage them to use your services or buy your products.
So, it’s very important to make sure that SEO does not interfere too much with the web site design and that the web site design does not interfere too much with the SEO. The web site design and SEO must complement each other to bring more revenue to your business.
There are other ways to drive Internet traffic to your web site and I’ve listed five of them in a pdf for you to download when you click on the image above. They are described in a bit more detail in the downloadable pdf but basically they are;
· Internet Directories
· Blogs
· Social Networking
· Review Sites
· Google Maps – Business Information
These five things can be carried out by you and are free. There are some links to good examples of suitable web sites in all of these categories. That’s five free things that you can do to drive Internet traffic to your web site. So, what are you waiting for, download the pdf and start marketing your web site.

Build a Web Presence
Web Design isn’t just about building a web site for your business. Web Design is about creating an online presence, an integrated approach to generating more business, offering your customers a better service and increasing your revenues.
So, how do you go about this? Where do you begin? Well, you need to decide what you would expect from your online presence. This means deciding whether you want to sell your goods and services online, do you want to manage your customers accounts, do you want to manage your staff, control your stock, market your business both virtual and bricks and mortar?
You can track your vehicles, manage your telephone system and many more things too. So, how far do you want to go? The sensible approach is to begin with that bit which is most important to you. Learn how it works and then build your system according to the importance of each section to your business, tie it together, integrate it.
You can go the whole way and develop an entire system, put everything online and manage your business from anywhere. A true flexible approach or you can cherry pick what you consider to be the best bits for your business and still manage it remotely.
The important thing is that every part of the system works in combination with each other, it must be designed, it must be put into operation and it must be working by the time that you need it. It becomes a project and that needs to be managed. Or maybe you would just like a web site!

The event was held at the Manchester Central Convention Complex, formerly the G-mex Centre. It was quite well attended by both exhibitors and visitors and there was a lot to get around given that I only allowed myself four hours. The most interesting aspect for me was the mobile wall where new mobile applications were being demonstrated.
Eight companies were represented and I spent quite a bit of time looking at some bluetooth applications, tracking applications for the mobile phone and software for low cost routing of mobile calls to foreign locations.
Elsewhere in the exhibition there was quite a bit about WLR3 which should revolutionise the provision of landline calls and line rental for providers and customers alike. There was some interesting ways of providing temporary IT and Communication networks for construction sites, conventions or anywhere else that needs temporary communications as a matter of urgency.
Mobile and landline convergence platforms are growing more sophisticated allowing some huge savings on call charges for those companies ready to deploy the hardware and software and making it easier to contact their people in the field.
All of these I will talk about in more detail in later posts and I’ll look at how businesses can implement them in their daily grind and also look at the benefits of doing so!
I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more about IT networks and the use of the Internet (for voice and data transfer as well as web interfaces). Yes, many of the applications and solutions had web interfaces for their operational needs and there was talk about this system or that system linking into existing IT networks, but it would have been nice to see a few more examples of working models.
It was still an enjoyable half day though and I’m pleased I went. I will be developing the blog over the next few weeks and beyond to talk about a whole range of issues involving IT, the Internet and Communications and how converging technology can help to improve your business performance, lower your costs and add flexibility to your business!
So please keep coming back!
